About Bachat

Bachat ("savings" in Nepali) helps you track where your money comes from and where it goes, keep an eye on progress toward savings goals, track informal debts between you and other people, and get a warning when your spending is approaching a limit you’ve set for yourself. No bank integrations, no third-party data sharing — you enter what you spend and earn, and Bachat keeps it organized.

User manual

A closer look at how each module works.

Transactions

  • Record a transaction as either income or expense, with an amount, a category, a source (cash, wallet, or bank), and a date.
  • Every transaction is tagged with a category, so your spending naturally groups itself by type over time.
  • An optional note field lets you add context you’ll want later, like what the purchase was actually for.

Categories

  • Create categories for the kinds of income and expenses that make sense for your life — groceries, rent, salary, freelance, whatever you actually track.
  • Each category is marked as either an expense category or an income category, so transactions are always classified correctly.
  • A category that already has transactions on it is protected from deletion, so your transaction history is never silently lost.

Goals

  • Define a goal with a title, a target amount, a start date, an optional target date, and a savings frequency (daily, weekly, or monthly).
  • As you log savings against a goal, Bachat automatically calculates how much you’ve saved so far and how much remains.
  • Use goals for anything with a number attached — an emergency fund, a trip, a down payment.

Savings

  • Log a savings entry with an amount and a date, and optionally link it to one of your goals.
  • Linked savings entries roll up automatically into that goal’s progress — no manual math required.
  • Savings entries don’t have to belong to a goal; you can also just track money set aside in general.

Ledger

  • Add a ledger entry as a credit (money owed to you) or a debit (money you owe), with the other person’s name and an amount.
  • Track status as pending, partial, or cleared, and set a due date so nothing gets forgotten.
  • Attach a proof file (like a photo of a receipt or a screenshot) to an entry as a record of the agreement.

Spending limits

  • Set a spending limit for a daily, weekly, or monthly period, with one limit per period type.
  • Bachat compares your actual spending in that period against the limit so you know where you stand before you overspend.

Dashboard

  • The dashboard pulls together your recent transactions, goal progress, and ledger status into a single summary view.
  • It’s the first thing you see after logging in — a quick answer to "where do things stand right now?"

Calculator

  • A simple arithmetic calculator lives on the dashboard for quick math — no need to switch apps to work out a split bill or a running total.
  • It’s a lightweight, in-browser tool with no data saved anywhere — nothing more than a convenience while you’re logging transactions.

Sticky notes

  • Add freeform sticky notes on your dashboard — a reminder to pay someone back, a budget idea, anything worth not forgetting.
  • Pick from four colors to keep notes visually organized, and remove a note the moment it’s no longer needed.
  • Notes are saved to your account, so they’re there the next time you log in from anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what people usually ask before creating a Bachat account.

Is Bachat free to use?

Yes. Creating an account and using all of Bachat’s budgeting and expense-tracking features is free.

Does Bachat connect to my bank account?

No. Bachat has no bank integrations or third-party data sharing — you enter what you spend and earn yourself, and Bachat keeps it organized.

Can Bachat track savings goals as well as expenses?

Yes. You can set a savings goal with a target amount and date, log savings entries against it, and Bachat automatically tracks your progress.

Can I track money I owe or am owed by other people?

Yes, through the ledger module. You can record informal debts as credits or debits, track their status as pending, partial, or cleared, and attach proof like a receipt photo.

Will Bachat warn me before I overspend?

Yes. You can set a daily, weekly, or monthly spending limit, and Bachat compares your actual spending against it so you know where you stand.
